Exit plan...

Turns out, there aren't many options leaving Baton Rouge westbound across the Mississippi river:  I10 bridge-illegal for bikes; SR190 bridge- treacherous four lane road, no shoulders, heavy traffic... may be possible to get a police escort but the expansion joints on the bridge have been known to puncture bike tires... maybe not; one ferry 30 miles north, one 20 miles south.  I think I'm going south to the Plaquemine crossing.  Latest info says the ferry is running, but apparently that changes hourly.
There was a cold, driving rain in BR today.  Temp now is 54 F, and it has warmed up quite a bit.  I can't believe how much the swale near the hotel rose during the day.  Apparently it has been a wet late fall here... but a quiet hurricane season.  Today officially marks the end of hurricane season (probably like the official end of autumn at home, quite arbitrary).
Last night's dinner was Jambalaya, tonight's was red beans and rice.  Topping it off with a bag of Zapp's Cajun Dill Gator-Tators.  When in Rome...
Happy December folks, don't leave home without your bonnets!

  1. Happy December Carl. Wishing you a safe (and memorable)departure from Baton Rouge. You know what they say...that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger. I'm envious of your adventure. If you weren't biking out of B.R., you'd probably be calibrating some air quality measurement duhicky. I like your judgement.

  2. Thanks Mark, and thanks also for taking the "no heat call" back at the home front. I owe you. How was the carrot cake?

  3. Unfortunately, the carrot cake was either really well hidden or someone beat me to it. Probably just as well...I'm really well fed lately.
